The taste of Mexico City has made its way to Claremont with La Popular⎼an authentic mexican restaurant in Claremont Village. Located on the corner of Yale Ave and Bonia Ave, La Popular is conveniently open every day from 11 am - 12 pm with happy hour from 3-6 pm (Monday-Friday).
Their innovative food menu features authentic Mexican recipes that proudly represent the culture and tradition of Mexico⎼in particular, Mexico City. Everything is made fresh and with quality ingredients such as their Queso Fundido Con Chorizo, Chicken Mole Enchiladas, Fajitas, Al Pastor Tacos, and so much more.
I was most impressed with their agave-centric beverage program featuring over 80 tequila and mezcal labels. That’s mind blowing! Their craft cocktail menu is filled with adventurous concoctions such as the Watermelon Hibiscus Margarita, Desert Rose, Forbidden Paradise Mule, Oaxacan Jellyfish, Yucatán Toucan, and more.
Stop by during happy hour, Monday⎼Friday from 3⎼6 pm for $5 draft beer, $7 wine, $8 margaritas, $5 been dip, two tacos for $9 and more.
Let’s talk about ambiance. One word, FUEGO. The vibe is upbeat, energetic, and just plain fun. Visually it’s stunning. There’s an entire wall of plants, huge ceiling wood beams, ambient lighting with a beautiful bar in the center. The front windows actually extend out making the entire restaurant feel more open and airy.
The service lives up to the aesthetics. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly to us, also engaging in conversation that felt genuine. Personally, I love to see people happy at work and loving their jobs and with the staff at La Popular, that is very evident. Their service motto is “all hands on deck.”
La Popular in Claremont is an ideal spot for date night, a celebratory lunch/dinner, girls night, a special occasion, or no occasion at all. Seating is available indoors, outdoors, and in the bar area.
Reservations at La Popular in Claremont are highly recommended otherwise you may find yourself on a long waitlist. But it's well worth it.
Enjoy your visit and be sure to tell them Miss Claremont sent you.
